See how our interior design services in Ithaca transformed a traditional house into a contemporary home…

When long time clients told us they were building a new home, we were so happy for them and excited to be a part of their project. We had designed multiple projects for them over the years and we knew our client’s contemporary style well. The big surprise came when they told us they were building a traditional center hall colonial. “What? But you love contemporary design!”

So the challenge began, how do we make a very traditional styled house a contemporary home the client would love?

First thing our Ithaca interior designer did was get her hands on the floor plan, so we could see how to start opening up those closed off rooms. We completely removed the wall between the dining room and foyer and greatly expanded the opening between the dining room and kitchen.

To open up the living room, we removed a good portion of the wall between the living room and foyer, exposing the staircase. We also completely removed the wall between the living room and family room, which created a great room with an abundance of windows.  Without much wall space for artwork, we specified Duo style drapes, by The Contemporary Curtain to create interest at eye level.

In the original house plans, the kitchen was quite small with a very traditional breakfast nook. We transformed the breakfast nook into a bar area that was a natural extension of the kitchen and created a huge custom island with plenty of seating.

We looked at every element going into the space and shifted to more contemporary options for light fixtures, doors, plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, fireplace, flooring, and finishing touches down to contemporary accent pillows to complete the space. The result is a space that people are stunned by when they enter, it feels nothing like a center hall colonial and most important of all, our clients love living in it!

As an interior design firm serving Ithaca, NY and beyond, our top objective for every project is for the client to love their space. If you are considering working with a Professional Interior Designer in Ithaca, contact us to schedule your complimentary call.
